Rules and Regulations

Schedule of Events

  • Any individual (including SAA Derby Committee Members) may enter the SAA Derby by purchasing a ticket and agreeing to abide by the rules herein.  Children are welcome, but will count as a contestant.

  • SAA will appoint Derby Officials whose decision in respect to the application of any of the SAA Rules and Regulations shall be final and binding on all Contestants.

  • All Salmon derby anglers (“Contestants”) will be issued a sticker for each rod that must be affixed to the side window of boat and must be visible to Derby Officials.  It is up to the ticket holder to decide upon how the sticker is affixed.

  • By purchasing a ticket the Contestant agrees that all fish will be caught in compliance with the SAA Rules and Regulations as well as Fisheries and Oceans Canada Regulations. Any violations by a contestant will result in their disqualification from the derby, including all participants in that contestant’s boat.

  • Once paid, ticket charges are non-refundable. The only exception is in case the Derby is cancelled.

  • Nothing in the SAA Rules and Regulations shall be interpreted in any way so as to change, vary or modify Fisheries and Oceans Canada Regulations.

  • Charter boats are also permitted.

  • Contestants are allowed to carry as many rods and reels in their boat as they wish but only 1 rod per entry fee may be used.

  • Contestants are only permitted to win one cash prize, but are eligible for all merchandise prizes.

  • Only registered Contestants are allowed to fish regardless of the number of people in a boat.

  • Boats must fish at least 30 feet offshore at all times.  No boat shall make contact with any point of land, other boats (excepting patrol boats) or docks, except for Van Isle Marina boat launch & fuel dock, Tulista Park boat launch and North Saanich Marina fuel dock & weigh-in station.  Contestants may return to the above docks and return to fishing if they wish.

  • Patrol boats will roam freely and answer all calls on VHF Channel 68.  VHF channels 16 and 68 will be monitored.

  • Contestants observing any violation of the Rules and Regulations set out herein, or the Fisheries and Oceans Canada Regulations shall immediately report such violation to the nearest patrol boat.

  • Contestants must be in possession of a valid Canadian Pacific Tidal Fishing License.

  • Weigh-in will be at North Saanich Marina fuel dock from 7 AM until 4:00 p.m. May 5th 2018.

  • Boats are to line up at the North Saanich Marina fuel dock prior to or by 4:00 p.m.

  • Boats arriving at the North Saanich Marina fuel dock after 4:00 p.m. will not have their onboard fish weighed-in.

  • Salmon are not to be cleaned prior to weigh-in.

  • Salmon will be weighed to the nearest 1/10th of a pound.  In the event of a tie, the first fish weighed in with the derby officials wins. The other fish will receive the next prize in line.

  • All salmon entered for prizes shall be inspected, weighed and certified by a Derby Official.

  • If, in the opinion of the Derby Official, the salmon has post-rigor, determined to be foul hooked or any other violation of the tournament Rules and Regulations is evident, the Contestant and all those within the Contestant’s boat will be disqualified. Official weigh-in personnel will have the final decision.

  • Once salmon are officially weighed, Contestants are responsible for storing and cleaning their fish.

  • The top three winning fish will become the property of the Sidney Anglers Association.

  • All prizes must be claimed by the ticket holder (or a representative holding the ticket) on the evening drawn. Unclaimed prizes become property of the Sidney Anglers.
